Summer Lawn Care

Summer is here and now is the time to make sure you stay on top of your lawn with our summer lawn care tips.

Weeds

It’s inevitable that occasionally you will see some weeds in your grass. Weeds like to take over weak areas in your yard which is why it is important to fertilize and water your lawn regularly. To prevent weeds from taking over in the summer one method is using a post-emergent weed treatment to weeds and it won’t harm your grass.

Watering Techniques

Water is extremely important in the summer with the heat. But it is equally as important to know the proper times to water. Three tips are to water early, water deep and not as often, and use an underground irrigation system or pulsating sprinklers.

Tree and Shrub Care

Trees and shrubs need love to. While these seem to be hardy plants they are just as susceptible to droughts and diseases too. Use dormant oil to kill any insects or eggs. And Deep Root Fertilization to make sure the fertilizer gets where it needs to go, the roots.

Pest Control

Pests are an issue in South Carolina, they can even cause you to stay inside during the summer months. Here are a few tips to make sure your yard is enjoyable:

Mosquitos – This is the most annoying part of the summer months in the south. Make sure to remove standing bodies of water from old tires, buckets, bird baths, and ponds.

Fire Ants – Did you know that fire ants are native to South America? But the climate of South Carolina is extremely habitable for these pests. Fire ants have been known to cause more than a sting and ruin your grass.

Chince Bugs – Tiny insects that can cause damage to your turf by sucking moisture out of your grass and injecting it with a poison which kills your grass, resembling a drought.
